Creating desktop shortcuts for your favorite websites

Overview
This guide will outline the way to visit a website and drag a shortcut link from your Internet Explorer browser and place it onto your desktop for a quick access to your favorite websites.
First, open Internet Explorer and visit the web page that you want to have as a desktop link.  I have found that this click and drag method works with a number of browsers, not just Internet Explorer.

In this example you have accessed ESPN.com.

Your favorite website

Make sure that you can see your desktop behind Internet Explorer and that your Internet Explorer is not maximized.

You will now click with your left mouse button and while holding it down, drag the link to your desktop.

Click and drag

Once you have moved the link to your desktop, release the left mouse button to place the link on your desktop.  You can now also change the name of the link if you like by single right mouse clicking on the link and choose “Rename” from the context menu with your left mouse click.  Change the shortcut name to what suits you best.
