Thu, 11 Sep 2008 14:56:53 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.6.3 en http://www.rodcohen.com/2008/01/06/samsungs-new-a1-hdds-are-microdrive-killers/ http://www.rodcohen.com/2008/01/06/samsungs-new-a1-hdds-are-microdrive-killers/#comments Mon, 07 Jan 2008 00:05:44 +0000 Rod Cohen http://www.rodcohen.com/2008/01/06/samsungs-new-a1-hdds-are-microdrive-killers/ Microdrives were introduced several years ago and primarily used for high end 35 mm digital cameras.  The small CF (compact flash) sized drives when introduced, were large in storage compared to the flash memory sizes at that time.  Capacities started at 1 GB (gigabyte) and crept up to 12 GB.  Samsung recently introduced their new A1 HD drives that are the same size as the previous CF drives and now store in upwards of 40 GB.  The new drives have a 2 second start-up time and spin at 3,600 RPM.   The drives are expected to sell retail for $199 and are available now.
