The REV version has a small gas motor that will recharge the battery.  The batteries on these types of vehicles are only meant to go about 40-50 miles.  Tesla The vehicles are extended to sell for $50,000 - $70,000 range and Tesla states they will come out with a most cost minded vehicle.
